In our real estate and property management business, shopping convenience sometimes hits the table when people from metro areas visit. It’s just one of many differences that renters and buyers face, almost amounting to a change in life style.
From Lake Shastina it is 15 minutes or so to the Ray’s grocery in Weed. Or 30 minutes north to Raley’s and Grocery Outlet in Yreka. Although we can get some things including gasoline at the Shastina Mini-Mart, these distances sometimes cause visitors to pause if they come from neighborhoods with stores within walking distances.
And compared to most other areas in Siskiyou County, Lake Shastina is CLOSE. Google Sawyers Bar for illustration.
The quiet here also unnerves some. We have actually heard “it’s TOO quiet, I can’t hear the cars or anything.” Another line I heard was “What do you folks DO here at night?”
Some things cost more, like groceries and gas, but others are less . . . buying or renting housing for example. I haven’t heard anyone complain about less traffic yet, though.
