This is the only example I have seen so far here in Lake Shastina. It is on a post I planted just inside the property line of our home on Muskrat and does not need a permit from the homeowners association (due to its small footprint). The idea is that neighbors can take books to read at will, replacing them with ones of their own as space allows. Right now this one is jammed so I’m working to erect another one.
I put a note on the window that asks for # 1 New York Times Bestsellers and folks in our area seem to have quite a few of these because, like I said, it’s full. But you can feature childrens’ bo0ks, westerns, non-fiction, or leave the door open to any and all types of reading
If people here read as much as Sally and I, there is opportunity to build more of these. Here is a sample of ones from across the country:
I registered my library ($40) so I could support the group and get the numbered sign. If I can get more built I hope to have garage sales to cover this cost as well as materials.
Feel free to drop by or call with any questions.
